Nic Design was founded less than twenty years ago when two designers driven by a similar passion decided to join forces to give life to what would become a leader in the field of Made-in-Italy bathroom furniture. Stefano Morelli and Roberto Testale, two professionals who had previously gained recognition for their budding talent, founded the company in 2002. That same year, they won an international competition, bringing home the coveted Prize Design Plus at ISH in Frankfurt. This fundamental victory, which was to serve as the real springboard for the fledgling design studio, was linked to the Victoria shower tray’s undeniable success. Like the flagship Victoria, the disruptive vision that characterizes Nic projects was apparent in their earliest creations. This vision translated into a real desire to put the brand’s name on projects that could become genuine watersheds, especially in the bathroom furniture industry, which for many years was neglected by designers in favour of furnishings for other types of living spaces.
Nic Design collections: essential geometries and pure volumes
A very complex and original thought process underlies the apparent simplicity of Nic sanitary ware. Pure volumes, totemic shapes, soft geometries, and primordial energy can be found in all of the company’s fixtures, washbasins, and bathtubs.
Nic Design, Made-in-Italy sanitary ware and bathroom furnishings
Made-in-Italy values are central for this company, which, on the one hand, condenses Italian know-how into truly refined design, and on the other, is part of a cultural context that prizes traditional craftsmanship. Today, for all intents and purposes, Nic can be considered a leading company in sanitary fixtures, designer washbasins, and bathroom furnishings, all manufactured with the highest quality ceramic materials. The Nic catalogue includes objects characterized by strong personalities that are bold and original in their simplicity but highlight the plasticity of the unique material that is ceramics.
The splendid forms of the Milk series, for example, perfectly embody the unique Nic vision. They are characterized by tension and a very rare contrast between their component elements. The Milk series seems to capture the coexistence of two different forces. On the one hand, a tactile softness derives from the sinuous, uninterrupted curves that flow gently under the touch, unequivocally recalling a feminine universe whose values are delicacy, composure, and harmony. In contrast to this softness, the series’ monolithic and stable appearance is more reminiscent of a male world and the disruptive visual force of a white ceramic monolith. It is this constant balance between two forces that makes Nic Design sanitary ware unique. The floor-standing washbasins in the Milk collection are totemic, primordial-inspired figures, reminiscent of the spontaneity of cultures closest to nature, underpinned by painstaking design.
Whether they are naturally soft shapes, like the Milk collection, whose aim is to remind us of a drop of milk, or more squared-off forms like the Canale collection, Nic Design’s undoubted success can be traced to its ability to synthesize simplicity and research in precious objects that fit into even the most informal contexts. These elements naturally become parts of daily life – discreet and elegant but full of energy and instinct.
